Tiny Tony

From Skinny to Strong: How Unlocking Nutrition Transformed My Performance

As I sat in my office chair, mindlessly scrolling through social media, a post from 13 years ago stopped me in my tracks. There I was—18-year-old Tony, lounging in a booth at Whataburger during my first few weeks of college. I stared at the photo, and one thing jumped out like a sore thumb… where the heck are my muscles? I was 170 pounds soaking wet, with no clear muscle definition—looking less like a college baseball player and more like a string bean at the lunch table.

That picture got me thinking: what changed? How did I go from that skinny kid to, just a year later, adding 20 pounds of muscle and earning a starting position all four years in college? The transformation wasn’t a magic trick or some overnight miracle. It happened when I decided to fully commit—not just on the baseball field but also in the weight room, the kitchen, and the classroom.

See, my college major was Kinesiology, the science of human movement. As I dove into my studies, it was like I’d found the key to a puzzle I didn’t even know existed. Suddenly, the dots started connecting. How I trained, how I ate, and how I recovered became the blueprint for both my physique and athletic performance.

I became obsessed with every workout, each one like a piece of a larger game plan. I devoured information from studies, online platforms, podcasts—anything I could find to fill my mental toolbox with tools to boost my performance. I didn’t just want to succeed; I wanted to understand the mechanics behind that success.

But the biggest game-changer? Learning what it really meant to eat for performance. Back in high school, I used to complain, “I eat so much, but I’m not gaining weight!” I’d throw up my hands, blaming my genetics, thinking my body just wasn’t built for it. But the truth was, I had no clue how many calories I was actually eating or what proper nutrition even looked like. I couldn’t tell a protein from a carb if my life depended on it! It wasn’t until college that the fog lifted, and with the knowledge I gained, I could finally fuel my body the right way and start seeing real, lasting changes.

Now, my mission is to pass this knowledge on to the athletes who train with us at PowerHaus. Helping that high school freshman understand what I learned much earlier than I did is what drives all of us here. We want to equip them with the tools for success—not just in the gym, but for life.

If you’re struggling to figure out nutrition or how to use it to your advantage, we’re here to help. The PowerHaus nutrition program gives you the knowledge, guidance, and accountability to hit your fitness and performance goals, just like I did.
